National Australian Pipelines were engaged by APA Group to conduct civil construction, fabrication and pipeline assembly installation as part of the Snowy Hydro Pigging Project.

The project aims to modify the existing pipework connection at Snowy Hydro Power Station,
Laverton from and unpiggable to a piggable pipeline.
The works include; locating the existing pipeline and conducting civil works preparation and
excavation in preparation for the installation of piping at either end of the future piggable section.
Following exposing the line coating removal and pipeline cut out is conducted to enable installation
and on site welding of the newly constructed pig launcher and receiver.

Following installation and NDT in accordance with AS2885, the pipeline and pig traps were
commissioned to be used for pigging at a later date.

Major activities

Major activities undertaken for this project included:

Provision of construction management plans for the pipeline including; Health and SafetyPlan, Site Environmental Management Plan, Quality Plan.
Excavation of operational Snowy Hydro Pipeline without disruption to typical operating pressure
Installation of earthing rods in accordance with LFI mitigation requirements
Confirmation of weld locations and site measurements of pipeline cut outs
Offsite fabrication of new pipe assemblies in accordance with design drawings and the onsite
measurements
Civil pad works for new pig launcher and receiver locations
Installation of site security fencing for new facility in accordance with APA Drawings
