National Australian Pipelines were engaged by APA Group to construct approximately 62m of DN300 steel gas pipeline relocation, and decommission approximately 60m of the existing pipework which will be impacted by the construction of the Riverlee Development, South Melbourne Victoria.

National Australian Pipelines were engaged by APA Group to construct approximately 62m of DN300 steel gas pipeline relocation, and decommission approximately 60m of the existing pipework which will be impacted by the construction of the Riverlee Development, South Melbourne Victoria.

The relocation of the pipeline is required due to the future impact the Riverlee development will have on the typical cover of the existing asset during construction.

Major activities

Major activities undertaken for this project included:

Provision of construction management plans for the pipeline including; Health and Safety Plan, Site Environmental Management Plan, Quality Plan.
Provision of significant Traffic Management Plans, including full time traffic management resources and TMAs for nightly closure.
Identification, potholing and recording of crossing existing assets and utilities using along the pipeline construction alignment.
Cartage and disposal of contaminated spoil where required.
Nightly installation, backfill and reinstatement of pavement for daily road reopening.
Non-destructive testing (NDT) on 10% of mainline welds.
All works conducted during night to limit impact to major thoroughfare roadway.
Backfilling of pipeline using APA approved materials and asphalt reinstatement of entire pipeline alignment to Department of Transport and council specification.
Two tie ins conducted to the existing main with commissioning and decommissioning of the existing pipework.
