In 2014 National Australian Pipelines constructed a dual trench pipeline containing gas and water mains in order to supply the Donnybrook Road Merrifield Estate.

In 2014 National Australian Pipelines constructed a dual trench pipeline containing gas and water
mains in order to supply the Donnybrook Road Merrifield Estate. The gas main was a 3.6km, 300mm
diameter MSCL pipeline. The pipeline was constructed for APA Group to meet transmission gas main
standards in order to ensure the integrity of the service. A 3.6km water main was also constructed in
the same trench as the gas main in order to reduce costs for the respective clients. The water main was a 300mm MSCL pipeline constructed for the Mickleham Delivery Pty Ltd & Evolve, DCE and to be operated by Yarra Valley Water.

Major activities

Major activities undertaken for this project included:

Provision of construction management plans for the pipeline including, Safety Health and Safety Plan, Site Environmental Management Plan, Quality Plan.
Provision of traffic management plans.
Traffic management during construction activities.
Survey and set out works.
Proving all existing assets.
Excavation using trenchers and excavators in extremely wet/sloppy ground conditions.
Welding and Coating of pipe above ground.
Installation of the dual pipes in the single trench including, placement, jointing and external joint coating.
Open cut excavation through concrete culverts and reinstatement of the culverts after construction.
Installation of 8 doglegs on the gas main underneath the OD419 water main.
Open cut cross connections over Donnybrook Rd throughout the length of the pipelines.
Supply of materials, installation and compaction of pipe embedment and trench backfill.
Reinstatement of all disturbed areas including easement, pipe track, construction access roads and all public roads and reserves.
Installation of pipeline marker posts.
