National Australian Pipelines constructed a 1330m steel HP main for APA Group in 2017.

National Australian Pipelines constructed a 1330m steel HP main for APA Group in 2017. The 200mm
pipeline was constructed to meet an operating pressure of 1050kpa in accordance with a HP Standard.
The new main ties-in with the 200mm steel main at Majestic Blvd and the 150mm steel main at Linsell
Blvd. Throughout the construction both open-cut and horizontal directional drilling (HDD) methods
were used with the pipeline being pigged, gauged and hydrotested in accordance with the APA
specification prior to commissioning.

Major activities

Major activities undertaken for this project included:

Provision of construction management plans for the pipeline including; Health and Safety Plan, Site Environmental Management Plan, Quality Plan.
Provision of Traffic Management Plans.
Fulltime traffic management on project through construction of the pipeline.
Site setup and survey of pipeline alignment.
Identification and potholing of existing assets and utilities using Non-Destructive Digging (NDD).
Excavation of trench to ensure pipeline installation at a minimum cover of 1200mm to the top of pipe.
Stringing and laying of welded steel pipeline using a CAT 28 ton and 5 ton hydraulic excavator, as well as a CAT 924H wheel loader.
Construction using horizontal directional drilling as required for all existing hard stand surfaces and to avoid existing assets and utilities.
Coating of joints and unprotected steel to ensure the integrity of the pipeline. Coating tested with a Holiday Detector.
Backfilling of pipeline using APA approved materials that met the specification provided in the contract.
Installation of one cathodic protection (CP) point and several marker posts as required by APA.
Pigging, gauging and hydrotesting the new main to a minimum pressure of 1470kpa in accordance with the APA specification in the contract.
One in-line tie-in and one hot-tap tie-in to commission the newly constructed 200mm steel main.
